Check the status of your MNP, port to Airtel your Jio, Vi, or BSNL mobile number, and more
If you are a resident of India and have a valid mobile number registered with one of the country’s four big telecom operators–Airtel, Jio, Vi, or BSNL–you can port your number to one of these operators without having to re-register with the new operator. This process is usually straightforward and requires a few steps. Once your number has been ported, you can use it with all of the services offered by your old operator and those provided by the new operator.
First, to port, your number, check whether your current provider offers MNP registration. If so, follow their instructions for registering for MNP service. Once you’ve registered for MNP service and received confirmation that your number is ready, proceed to step 2.
If your number still needs to be registered with an MNP provider, you’ll need to find out which of India’s four major telecom providers owns your number. You can do this by contacting customer service at each of the four companies (Airtel, Jio, Vi, or BSNL) and asking for information about your account. Once you know which company owns your number, proceed to step 3.
Once you’ve determined which company owns your number and obtained confirmation that it’s ready for MNP registration, visit that company’s website and follow their instructions for registering for MNP service.

What is MNP, and why do we need to check the status?
Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is a facility that allows subscribers of mobile services providers (MSPs) to retain their existing mobile numbers even when they switch service providers. The MNP facility is available on subscription plans for all four major mobile networks in India-Airtel, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea Cellular.
Under the MNP scheme, if you are an MSP subscriber and want to port your number to any other MSP, you must first port your number to the new MSP and then register with that new MSP. Once registered with the new MSP, your old number will be ported over to the new MSP, and you will continue using that same number with the new MSP.
Some things could be improved on how often you can port your number. You can only port your number once every twelve months. And if you want to change services before your current contract expires, you must cancel your contract with the old MSP and then re-contract with the new MSP.
